In term 4, the Grade 4 students will mostly focus on swimming techniques, as they will be expected to tread water for 3 minutes as well as show proper head placement, arm movement and kicking skills in the water. The rest of the term will be spent improving their basketball skills and movement in the form of dance. They will be expected to show how to properly pass using a mature pattern. They will also build on their dribbling skills by learning how to protect the ball and attempt some tricks. They should also be able to score a basket from a distance of 5 feet, showing proper form. Towards the end of the term they will focus on movement and dance. The Grade 4's will be expected to combine locomotor movement patterns and dance steps to create and perform an original dance.
In term 3, the Grade 4 students will focus on nutrition, jump rope and floor hockey. They will examine the health benefits of participating in physical activity as well as be expected to complete a poster board and google slides presentation on nutrition. They will perform intermediate jump rope skills for both long and short ropes. They should also be able to demonstrate proper grip, stance, body orientation, swing plane and follow through in hockey.
In term 2, the Grade 4 students will focus on net and racket games. They will start the term off with badminton, where they will be expected to be able to serve and return serves with a shorthandled implement as well as make contact with the object consecutive times. They will also explore other net games such as volleyball, where they will need to send the ball over the net using mature patterns with both overhand and underhand striking techniques.
In term 1, the Grade 4 students will focus mostly on soccer skills and running techniques. They should be able to run for longer distances and extended periods of time. In soccer they will continue to concentrate on dribbling while varying their speeds as well as passing to moving partners. A large focus will also be placed on exhibiting acceptance of self and others in physical activities as well as building on teamwork and sportsmanship.
