In term 1, the Pre Kindergarten students will cover a range of motor skills and movement including kicking, running, hopping, galloping, sliding and skipping. A large focus will be placed on being active while showing teamwork and being introduced to sportsmanship. They will also spend some time in the pool in term 1. The focus will be on blowing bubbles and learning the basic kicking motion. By the end of the term, they should be comfortable holding on to the edge of the pool in the water, while wearing a life preserver.
In term 2, the Pre Kindergarten students will continue to develop their motor skills and movement including kicking, running, hopping, galloping, sliding and skipping. This term they will begin to explore balance and stability, as well as net games and using rackets. Light weight balls will be used for volleying and hitting with manipulatives.
In term 3, the Pre Kindergarten students will learn about good health, jumping strategies and games that require different locomotor skills. They will be expected to recognize that physical activity is important for good health. They will also work on front and back as well as lateral jumping strategies. Finally they will explore various games that use different manipulatives and movements.
In term 4, the Pre Kindergarten students will focus on ball games, movement, beats and rhythm. They will be expected to be able to bounce a ball and catch it before it bounces a second time. They will also need to be able to pass a light ball between friends. They will explore ribbons and express themselves in the form of dance with those ribbons. They will learn to be creative with their movement as they listen to different rhythms.
In term 5, the Pre Kindergarten students will continue to focus on motor skills and movement as well as throwing and catching. They will also take some of the skills and techniques learned throughout the year and apply them in group games. As the weather warms up, we will try to get outside as much as possible.
