In term 4, the Grade 3 students will mostly focus on swimming techniques, as they will be expected to tread water for 3 minutes as well as show proper head placement, arm movement and kicking skills in the water. They will also cover basketball and movement in the form of dance. They will be expected to perform both a chest pass and bounce pass with a mature pattern. They will also be assessed on their dribbling abilities (fingertips, head up, movement and form). Everyone loves practicing their shooting, but they will only be evaluated on their form, not their ability to score. Towards the end of the term they will focus on movement and dance. The Grade 3's will be expected to perform dance steps and movement patterns to specific rhythms.
In term 3, the Grade 3 students will focus on jump rope, good health and floor hockey. Their term project will be to create and perform a jump rope routine as a class using some of the intermediate jump rope skills they learned. They will also be expected to discuss the relationship between physical activity and good health. They will also learn to strike a ball with a long handled implement using proper grip sending it forward to a target.
In term 2, the Grade 3 students will focus on net and racket games. They will start the term off with badminton, where they will be expected to be able to serve and return serves with a shorthandled implement. They will also explore other net games such as volleyball, where they will need to send the ball over the net with both overhand and underhand striking techniques. In health they will discuss personal safety and injury prevention.
In term 1, the Grade 3 students will focus mostly on soccer skills and running techniques. They should be able to show the difference between jogging and sprinting as well as run for an extended period of time. In soccer they will continue to concentrate on dribbling while moving and kicking a moving ball. A large focus will also be placed on exhibiting acceptance of self and others in physical activities as well as building on teamwork and sportsmanship. In health, they will discuss the importance of eating a balanced meal, understand the difference between processed and unprocessed food and learn the different food groups.
