In term 4, the Grade 1 students will focus on basketball, movement, beats and rhythm. They will be expected to demonstrate the basics of passing, dribbling and shooting. They will explore ribbons and express themselves in the form of dance with those ribbons. They will respond and move to designated beats and rhythms as well as perform a teacher designed dance.
In term 3, the Grade 1 students will learn about healthy physical activities, jump rope and manipulative games. They will be expected to identify physical activities as components of good health. They should also learn how to jump forwards and backwards using a self turned rope and practice jumping on a long rope. They will also explore various games using long implements to work on their hand eye coordination and balance.
In term 2, the Grade 1 students will continue to develop their motor skills and movement while starting to explore balance and stability as well as net games and using rackets. They will be expected to volley objects with an open palm, sending it upwards, as well as striking balls with shorthandled implements.
In term 1, the Grade 1 students will build upon the motor skills and movement they developed last year such as kicking, hopping, galloping, sliding and skipping as well as focus on running strategies and soccer skills. In soccer they will learn how to tap or dribble the ball while walking and basic shooting and passing. A large focus will be placed on exhibiting acceptance of self and others in physical activities as well as building on teamwork and sportsmanship.
