In term 4, the Grade 2 students will focus on basketball, movement and rhythm. They will be expected to show understanding of how to pass, dribble and shoot at close distances. They will also combine shapes, levels and pathways into simple travel, dance and gymnastics. Towards the end of the term they will focus on movement and dance. The Grade 2's will be expected to perform a rhythmic activity with correct response to simple rhythm.
In term 3, the Grade 2 students will spend time learning about good health balance, jump rope and some floor hockey. They will be expected to recognize the value of having a good health balance as well as eating healthy. They will also be expected to jump a self turned rope consecutively forwards and backwards. FInally they will explore different games using long implements such as hockey sticks.
In term 2, the Grade 2 students will continue to develop their motor skills and movement while starting to explore net games and using rackets. They will be expected to volley objects with an open palm multiple times, as well as striking balls with shorthandled implements multiple times.
In term 1, the Grade 2 students will sharpen their motor skills and movement such as kicking, hopping, galloping, sliding and skipping as well as focus on running strategies and soccer skills. They should be able to show the difference between jogging and sprinting as well as run for an extended period of time. In soccer they will concentrate on dribbling and kicking a moving ball. A large focus will also be placed on exhibiting acceptance of self and others in physical activities as well as building on teamwork and sportsmanship.
